Guillotine Bot Documentation

Learn how to protect your server with automated traps.

Overview

Guillotine Bot is an advanced anti-raid and anti-spam tool. It uses "honey-pot" mechanics—traps that legitimate users know to avoid, but automated user-bots and raiders fall into. When a trap is triggered, the bot instantly bans the user and deletes their recent messages (up to 7 days).

Quick Setup Guide

New to Guillotine Bot? Follow these steps to get your server protected in a few minutes:

Step 1 — Invite the Bot

Click "Add to Discord" on the home page and authorize the bot for your server. The bot requires the Ban Members, Manage Messages, View Channel, Send Messages, Add Reactions, Embed Links, and Use External Apps permissions.

Step 2 — Log In to the Dashboard

Go to the dashboard and sign in with Discord. You'll see a list of servers you manage (you need Administrator or Manage Server permission). Click on the server you want to configure.

Step 3 — Enable Test Mode

Before going live, turn on Test Mode in the dashboard settings. This simulates bans without actually removing anyone, so you can safely verify your traps work. You'll turn this off later.

Step 4 — Set Up a Typing Trap (Channel)

Create a channel in your Discord (e.g. #guillotine or #verify-here) and select it as the Guillotine Channel in the dashboard. Tell your members not to type in it. Automated spambots and raiders that post in all channels will fall for it and get banned. Check the permission status box in the dashboard to confirm the bot has everything it needs in that channel.

Step 5 — (Optional) Set Up a Role Trap

Create a role in your Discord (e.g. Guillotine) and select it as the Guillotine Role. If a user is ever assigned this role—by another bot, a mod, or automation—they are immediately banned. Useful for combining with third-party verification bots.

Step 6 — (Optional) Deploy a Reaction Trap

Click Deploy to Channel in the dashboard (or run /trap in Discord). The bot posts an ASCII art warning message with a skull reaction. Anyone who reacts is banned.

Step 7 — Configure a Mod Log Channel

Create a private channel (e.g. #mod-log) and select it as the Moderation Log Channel in the dashboard. The bot will log all bans, deleted messages, and status alerts there with one-click unban buttons.

Step 8 — Test Your Traps

With Test Mode still on, have a non-admin account send a message in the guillotine channel or react to a reaction trap. You should see a test ban message appear and an entry in your mod log. If nothing happens, double-check the bot's permissions and that the channel/role is correctly selected.

Step 9 — Go Live

Once you're happy everything works, turn off Test Mode and save. The bot is now armed — any non-admin who triggers a trap will be banned for real. Make sure you and your other admins know which channels/roles are trapped!

Tip: Keep Test Mode on until you've confirmed your traps catch bots but don't accidentally catch real users. You can toggle it on and off anytime from the dashboard or with /testmode.

Admins Are Protected!

By design, any user who is the Server Owner, has the Administrator permission, or has the Manage Server permission is exempt from all traps. If an admin triggers a trap, the bot will simply send a 5-second warning message reminding them they are immune.

Trap Types

1. Typing Trap (Channel)

In the Dashboard, select a Guillotine Channel. Any non-admin user who sends a message in this channel is instantly banned. Tip: Create a channel called #verify-here, but explain in the rules not to type in it. Bots will spam it and get banned automatically.

⚠️ Important Channel Permissions: Ensure your Guillotine Channel's Discord settings allow `@everyone` to View Channel and Send Messages. Additionally, verify that Use External Apps is enabled so the bot has the authority to respond and interact properly!

2. Assignment Trap (Role)

In the Dashboard, select a Guillotine Role. If a user is assigned this role (e.g., by another auto-role bot, or manually), they are immediately banned. This is great for combining with third-party verification bots.

3. Reactor Trap

Using the Dashboard or the /trap command, the bot posts an ASCII art warning message in the targeted channel and adds a skull (☠️) reaction to it. Any user who clicks the reaction is banned.

Slash Commands

Admins can control the bot directly from Discord using these commands:

Moderation Log

The Moderation Log keeps a full record of everything the bot does. To enable it, select a Mod Log Channel in your server's dashboard settings. The following events are logged to that channel:

Unbanning: You can unban a user in two ways — click the Unban button on the Discord mod-log embed, or revoke the ban manually in Discord Server Settings » Bans.

Support Access

If you need help configuring the bot, you can grant the bot owner temporary access to modify your server's Guillotine settings from the admin dashboard. This is off by default — you are always in control.

  1. Go to your server's dashboard settings page.
  2. Enable the "Grant Bot Owner Support Access" toggle.
  3. Save settings. The bot owner can now view and modify your Guillotine configuration from their admin dashboard.
  4. When support is no longer needed, simply turn the toggle off and save.

Privacy note: The bot owner can only modify Guillotine-specific settings (channel, role, messages, etc.). They cannot access your broader Discord server settings, and this access only applies to Guillotine Bot configuration.

Featured Servers

The public website displays a "Top Protected Communities" list. Listing your server is opt-in and off by default — your server is never shown unless you explicitly enable it from your dashboard settings. Brand-new servers the bot joins are not listed until you turn the toggle on.

To feature your server, open your dashboard settings and enable "Feature This Server on the Public List", then save. You can turn it off at any time to be removed from the list.
